Batgirl Redesign by AznNerd Batgirl Redesign by AznNerd

Hey everyone! Project Rooftop is having a cool Batgirl redesign contestso I decided to give it a try!

I decided to play on the purple and yellow theme more and went for a more motorcyclist/Kamen Rider look (including the scarf!) but still trying to keep the Batgirl look. For the girl herself I chose to draw this Batgirl as an olderCarrie Kelley (From the Dark Knight Returns). I feel like she’d grow out of her Robin uniform and don the mantle.

This is what she should've looked like in Dark Knight Strikes Again. Not that stupid "Catgirl" bullshit Frank Miller came up with.

Precognitive concept with DK3 being announced. Well done. In the documentary called "Her Name is Carrie Kelley...Her Role is Robin" that came with the Dark Knight Returns DVD, the creators of the animated movie talk about how they wanted a "female that could succeed the role of a male".  Literally, she is a female Robin who succeeds after Jason Todd in the story, however with the Robin being also understood as the heir of the Batman....take that quote one step further....She is meant symbolically in the story to say that a female is just as capable as the Batman or other major male heroes.  A female Robin, in that universe (Carrie Kelley) is intended to be able to succeed the Batman.  I don't know if you watched the documentary with the DVD or not, but it basically hints at the probable plot of DK 3...That Carrie has the capacity to succeed the Batman..In Earth 31.  The in-canon 20-year-old Carrie is another story entirely.  I don't think the writers intend to write the character in such a similar or parallel direction.  For all we know she might call herself Batwoman or Batman regardless of being a female.

I've always thought the Bat-Family needed more powered armor after Batman used one while he recovered from Bane's attack in the 'Batman/Predator' crossover Dark Horse Comics did back in the mid-90s.   This works very well in that concept.

Really awesome idea! The design is fantastic! I'm not sure if you created the Carrie Batgirl idea or if somebody else made it up, but that's just cool. I had to fave this one & I'll be watching you from now on as well.

No problem & that is still probably one of the coolest ideas never used in comics. maybe somebody will get the hint & incorporate that one eventually. ;)

Great interpretation of Batgirl!  The scarf adds that sort of dramatic flair that Batman's cape usually does.  The arrangement and selection of her gear really gives her that ready-for-business look without being too techy or busy.  Overall, a really nice piece!

So much BETTER than the real design for her, this is what a superheroine needs to look like. Down with the skin tight uniform and UP with the armor design
