Ariel! I liked Ariel for her curiosity and thirst for knowledge. Most def a Ravenclaw. I've never been big on mermaids at all so, there's that. I wanted her to be ferocious though. I'm pretty tired of sissy princesses.

So for her, I decided to give her her father's trident and grant her the power to control weather and sea currents with it, hence the lightning. I ditched the fins for legs (like Ursula). I felt giving her hydrokinesis would have been super stereotypical and pretty lame so affinity for wind and lightning won out. She's like the mermaid version of Storm from the X-Men.
